The Role of Glass on Padel Courts

Since its origins in the 1970s, padel has been a sport loved by everyone and is the second most popular sport in Spain. This sport, a combination of tennis and squash, is played on a court which can be indoors or outdoors and has been more popular with the Portuguese in recent years.

The dimensions of a padel court are 20 meters long by 10 meters high, the famous "veinte por diez", as they say in Spain.

Panoramic padel courts, with glass walls, seem to be the favorite of players and fans, as they are more elegant and have greater visibility.

The paddle court walls are made of 10 or 12 mm thick tempered glass.

Tempered glass is a heat-treated safety glass that, if broken, shatters into small pieces, preventing serious injury to people or property.

The Tempering Process

To increase the strength and safety of glass, essential for padel courts, the glass can undergo a tempering process.

This process consists of heating the glass to high temperatures (approximately 700 ºC) - molding temperatures - and then cooling it in a controlled manner.

As it cools, the glass undergoes a structural (molecular) restructuring that gives it the desired higher strength.

This process is one of the main services offered by Nortempera. This was the first service developed by Nortempera when it was created 17 years ago.

We commercialize tempered glass from 4 mm to 20 mm. As bigger the thickness of the tempered glass, the bigger its resistance.

For padel courts, we recommend 12 mm toughened glass, as it is more resistant than 10 mm and allows the ball to bounce and the game to run smoothly.
