Glass pools are a trend in contemporary architecture. Projects such as the first floating pool in the world, in London, and the balcony pools in a building, in India, are just a few examples of the revolution we've been witnessing in the construction of swimming pools worldwide.

More than ever, glass has been the material of reference in this type of construction, as it allows us to combine the functionality of swimming pools with a high aesthetic sense. In the case of the floating pool in London, this development allowed building residents to enjoy a refreshing and relaxing space in a busy city, and city dwellers to continue to see the sky.

Another example of architectural pools is the work developed by architects Clinton Cole and Ryan Ng in Sydney, Australia, who incorporated a swimming pool into a house's living room.

Glass pools allow endless possibilities in terms of design and integration with the environment and glass can be applied in several ways. Apart from floating pools or pools with glass walls, the bottom of the pools can also be made of glass, allowing the user to have a view to the lower floors.

As important as choosing which pool fits best in the environment of the buildings is to understand what type of glass is indicated, in order to ensure safety and durability of the pool.

Laminated safety glass (Thermally Reinforced)

When building swimming pools, Nortempera recommends the use of laminated safety glass (thermally reinforced), ie, glass composed by several tempered glasses united with films of polyvinyl butyral (PVB/EVA), a film of high resistance.

By using laminated glass thermally reinforced, the safety of people is guaranteed, as well as the water tightness of the pool, so that the pool doesn't empty.

The thickness of the glass depends directly on the weight of the pool and the volume of water it will support. The heavier the weight, the thicker the glass must be.
